PORCUPINE RIDGE CABERNET SAUVIGNON 2016 WO Coastal Region
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BOEKENHOUTSKLOOF
Extremely intense purple colour. Iodine, cedar, wet wool, mocha-chocolate nose with some spicy plum-cherry notes. Dry, medium bodied, spicy, tangy, intense, rather dusty, baked plum-cherry flavours with a very crisp, somewhat cedary, resinous-herbal finish. Not keen on this style. Has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number 13017 on the lower part of the glass bottle and a screwcap closure. TONY ASPLER / 87-points - Savoury-herbal nose of blackberries; medium to full-bodied, dry, herbal plum and blackberry flavours with a note of leather. TASTING NOTE: This wine is named for the crested porcupine, a pointedly cute critter that inhabits the winery's farmlands. The wine itself is quite complex, showing spice box, earth, dark cherry, currants and plum. Pour it with steak and mushrooms, or roasted bell peppers stuffed with ground beef, beans and rice.
