SAN GIMIGNANO ROSSO 2013 DOC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
GUINZANO |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Spicy, bright, ripe warm plum-cherry nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, dense, cedary, slightly earthy, baked plum flavours with a lingering, cedary, sandalwood finish. This blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Merlot was matured for 12 months in French oak. It has 14.5% alcohol a 2 g/L residual sugar with a new lot number L17240 on the back label. Much better than the extremely disappointing 2011 (*) with 83-points released on February 4, 2017 at $17.95. You can safely ignore the old October 29, 2016 tasting note based on a previous bottling appearing in the Vintages Catalogue - it shows the incorrect percentages of grapes (70+15+10). |

TASTING NOTE: This 70% Sangiovese/15% Cabernet Sauvignon/10% Merlot blend matured 12 months in French oak barrique and a further 12 months in bottle. It bolts from the glass with heady aromas of red berry fruit, savory herbs and red cherry. This is medium-plus bodied with a juicy river of palate-bathing flavour -- black Bing cherry dipped in dark chocolate interwoven with cassis, mixed spice and oodles of charm. The finish lingers, balanced and structured with grace and excellent tang. Well paced, well priced and well... delicious. Exceptional-value wine. Score - 4.5 Stars (out of 5) (Vic Harradine, winecurrent.com, Oct. 29, 2016) |
