VIEILLES VIGNES CHÉNAS 2014 AC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
STÉPHANE AVIRON |
Fairly deep brick red colour. Mature, spicy, cooked, red apple-plum nose with some sandalwood and cranberry notes. Dry, medium bodied, quite well structured, very spicy, mature, baked plum-apple-cherry puree flavours with a lingering, somewhat earthy, high acid finish. This extremely odd tasting 100% Gamay from Chenas has 13% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. Made in the old non-carbonic maceration style, I would like to taste another bottle again to see if the bottle assessed was typical. |

Josh Raynolds awarded this wine a rating of 91 points and suggested a drinking window of 2018-2022. (vinous.com, Aug. 2016) TASTING NOTE: This producer, who makes cru wines in a Burgundian way by avoiding the region's carbonic maceration technique, has found a parcel of pre phylloxera vines that have produced an impressive wine. It is serious and concentrated, a wine that is made to age over a long period. With black fruits, intense acidity and tannins, it should not be drunk before 2019. Editors' Choice.
