This wine is loaded with toasty oak character - hence, \"Toasted Head\" - taken from the toasted barrels in which it's matured. But not all of the smoky character is from ageing. The vines are grown in volcanic hillside soils that impart flinty smoke of their own. This is always a dark, dense wine with rich smoke and tobacco atop the ripe fruit tones. There is nothing complicated here; this perennially and reliably delivers smooth, toasty dark fruit and pairs well with grilled meats. Price $ 19.95
