ST. DAVID'S BENCH VINEYARD GAMAY NOIR DROIT 2016 VQA St. David's Bench, Niagara-on-the-Lake |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES |
Fairly deep intense purple colour. Slightly spicy, bright, ripe plum-cherry-raspberry nose with some reductive, pencil eraser notes that should blow off. Dry, medium-light bodied, tangy, fresh, plum-raspberry flavours with a crisp, unoaked, still youthful, mineral-tinged finish. I suggest putting this away for another 6 months to relax as the best is yet to come. Has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. TONY ASPLER / 88-points - High-toned plum nose with a light floral note; medium-bodied, dry, earthy, smoky plum flavour. A touch over-extracted. The recommended best buy 2015 (**+) was released on January 21, 2017 at $17.95. |

This is a perennially exciting wine - its pedigree alone makes it fascinating: Gamay Droit, the only vinifera grapevine native to Canada, was created in the vineyard from which this wine is sourced. This is always bright and intense, with exceptional depth and focus. Look for touches of dark fruit, earth and smoke, and a spicy undertone. A great option for turkey dinners or a pork sausage pie. |
