Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, very spicy, cedar-driven, slightly smoky, mocha-chocolate and plum-cassis-cherry nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, harmonious, faintly sweet, intense, plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, cedar-driven, high acid, mocha-chocolate finish. This 100% Zin has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. Better than the alcoholic (15.5%) 2013 (**+) released on October 1, 2016 at $39.95. Earthquake Zin comes from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time as San Francisco's great earthquake of 1906. It's 100% Zinfandel aged 14 months in American oak and made in a big, bold style overflowing with berry fruit and spice. Pair with rib-eye steaks with sage and a dollop of blue cheese, or shake things up and pour it alongside beef saltimbocca with shaved truffles and Asiago. Price $ 43.95
