MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO 2007 DOC |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
VALLE REALE |
Very deep purple colour. Slightly spicy, ripe plum nose with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, (still) gently juicy, ripe plum-red cherry flavours with a lingering, crisp, high acid finish. This third REPEAT of the 2007 has 13.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L17173 on the back label is amazingly fresh and lively considering its age. Of course, DOC regulations allow new bottlings to taken from say stainless steel storage tanks - in this case on Thursday, June 22, 2017 - and be topped up with fresh new wine. TONY ASPLER / 88-points - Deep ruby colour; cedary, herbal, blackberry nose; medium-bodied, dry, blackcurrant and blackberry flavours with lively acidity. The 2007 was last released on March 17, 2012 at $17.95. |

Antonio Galloni awarded this wine 91 points in his Aug. 30, 2010 review (robertparker.com). TASTING NOTE: There's an intricate patchwork of flavours in this succulent, medium full-bodied red from central Italy. Taste cherry, then tobacco, then violet and plum with a thread of fine-grained tannins holding it all together. Then marvel at the attractive price-quality ratio. Serve it with medium-rare steak or lamb chops. Score - 90 (Beppi Crosariol, theglobeandmail.com, May 3, 2011) |
