VINTAGE PORT 2009 DOP |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

FONSECA |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Wonderful, fruit driven, spicy, intense, ripe, cassis-cherry-plum puree nose with some caramel notes. Lovely, sweet, dense, spicy, ripe black cherry puree flavours with a lingering, cedary, mocha-chocolate, fairly smoky finish. Delicious and quite accessible - it will hold and develop for many years to come. Has 20.5% alcohol and 110 g/L residual sugar with lot number LF089 on the back label. TONY ASPLER / 93-points / BUY - Dense purple-black in colour; spicy, blackcurrant and blackberry nose; full-bodied, sweet and concentrated; firmly structured and still tight, Hold 10 years. |

TASTING NOTE: The Fonseca 2009 has a very sweet, typically opulent bouquet of black plum, blackberry, chimney soot and a touch of pencil shavings that is very complex and alluring. The palate is full-bodied with powerful ripe blackberry, allspice, clove and balsamic notes, a roiling, powerful, assertive Fonseca with a sweet, dark chocolate tinged finish that grips the mouth, but it needs two decades to mellow and demonstrate the finesse to balance the intensity. This is a wonderful 2009 Vintage Port, though I suspect that the 2011 will ultimately prove even better. Score - 94 (Neal Martin, robertparker.com, June 27, 2013) |
