TANNAT 2014 Progreso
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CISPLATINO
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Spicy, baked plum nose with some cedary, mocha-chocolate notes and a touch of sulphur. Dry, medium bodied, somewhat tart, fairly intense, ripe plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, sandalwood-cedar finish. TONY ASPLER / 85-points - Sulphurous nose of plum with oak spice; medium-bodied, dry, earthy plum flavour with a short, blunt finish. Tony’s 85-points was based on the first bottle, while my 87.5-point score based on the much better second bottle. CSPC 514760

TASTING NOTE: Tannat is the main red grape in Gascony and the French Basque country - its thick skins are packed with polyphenols ... Pungent ripe fruit aromas, concentrated flavours with solid but flexible tannins. Given the tannins, it will show best with food - perhaps a slow roasted lamb shoulder or a chargrilled steak.
