L'OCÉANIQUE COGNAC AC Cognac
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer AUGIER
Bright pale straw colour. This Cru Bois Ordinaires has a very spicy, fairly honeyed, somewhat floral, Calvados-tinged, dried apple nose with some caramel notes. Very dry, medium bodied, still slightly peppery, tangy, dusty, apple-dried plum flavours with a lingering, crisp finish. Not my style. Has 10.1% alcohol and apparently was bottled on 23 Juillet 2015. TASTING NOTE: Ugni blanc from the Bois Ordinaires district. Lightest in color of the three Augiers, this appearance is sediment-free and the flax/yellow color of brut champagne. This initial nosing pass unearths subtle aromatic traces of tree bark, white raisins, quince, and even a barely perceptible hint of sea breeze; following more time in the glass, the aroma turns riper and fruitier, more biscuit and layered and therefore complex. Entry is soft yet sturdy and dry, acidic enough to thicken the texture, spicy enough to add a pleasing zestiness and overall very nice; mid-palate is round, deeply spicy (nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla bean), raisiny sweet (in fact, the sweetest of the three Augiers) and plushly textured. The raisiny aftertaste begs for a cigar accompaniment or, better yet, a crème brûlèe. Highly Recommended. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5) (F. Paul Pacult, Spirit Journal, Dec. 2016) Price $ 99.95
