BACK FROM THE DEAD RED 2015 VQA Ontario |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
COFFIN RIDGE |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Herbal, bitter, spicy, baked apple-peel nose with some cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied, sweet-sour, baked apple-plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, faintly smoky, somewhat cedary, bitter, herbal finish. Hopefully somebody will like this stuff as 559 cases are now back from the dead. Not in my comfort zone! This blend of 40% Maréchal Foch, 25% Baco Noir and 35% Merlot and Cabernet has 12.5% alcohol and now only 4 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. A REPEAT of the 2015 (*) released on April 29, 2017 at $19.00. The equally disappointing 2014 (*) was released on October 1, 2016 at $19.25. |

Coffin Ridge, Grey County's first commercial vineyard, began in 2001 and has gradually expanded from five to 25 acres. This wine is 40% Maréchal Foch, 25% Baco Noir, and the rest Merlot and Cabernet. The Foch brings brambly character, while the Baco adds savoury spices to the overall picture of tangy red and dark berry fruit. Lightly chill and pair with bison burgers or grilled wild mushrooms. |
