SKETCHES OF NIAGARA RIESLING 2015 VQA Niagara Peninsula
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer TAWSE
Not presented at the press and/or consultants preview in the LCBO lab. Here is my previous review: Bright extremely pale straw colour. Attractive, spicy, honeyed, ripe lemon-melon-apple nose with some mineral notes. Off dry, light bodied, tangy, spicy, faintly honeyed, intense, ripe melon-apple-lemon flavours with a lingering, very crisp, unoaked, mineral-tinged finish. Has 10% alcohol and 28 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. This 4th REPEAT of the 2014 (**+) last appeared in Vintages (**/**+) on February 18, 2017 at $18.95 and was Recommended Best Buy. TASTING NOTE: On the lean end of the Sketches line with more intent to knock your socks off. Sketches is incredibly consistent essential Niagara riesling and this '15 takes a bit of a risk-reward departure into that flinty, piercing netherland. As always it's the push-pull of juice-zest lemon into lime marking the dominant flavours. Tart hath no fury like a Sketches and its scorn. This is the one to age and watch the development, alongside and in contrast to singular expressions Quarry Road, Limestone and Carly's Block. Drink 2017-2020.
