PETITE SIRAH 2009 Napa Valley |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
STAGS' LEAP WINERY |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, baked, plummy-mocha-chocolate nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, albeit very well structured, harmonious, ripe, plum puree flavours with lots of mocha-chocolate notes on the lingering, slightly spicy, crisp, vanilla-tinged finish. Has an alcohol level of 14.1% (vs. 13.7% for the 2008). The average price in the US is $35. Similar to the recommended 2008 (*** with 91-points) released on September 15, 2012 at $44.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Opaque is an understatement, and the intensity follows through on the nose. Blackberry, blueberry jam, milk chocolate, cassis and sun-baked earth create as complex an array of aromas as you could hope for. Huge and generous with thick, ripe, velvety tannins. A beautifully constructed example of how well Petit Sirah can perform alone. Enjoy this with osso buco, game, pepper steaks or meaty pasta. Drink till 2020+. (Vintages panel, Aug. 2013) |
