WINERY PETITE SIRAH 2008 Napa Valley |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |

STAGS' LEAP |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, complex, baked, plummy-mocha-chocolate nose. Dry, medium-full bodied, albeit very well structured, harmonious, ripe, plum puree flavours with lots of mocha-chocolate notes on the lingering, slightly spicy, crisp, vanilla-tinged finish. Very classy indeed! Similar to the recommended best buy 2007 (***) released on June 11, 2011 at $44.95. The average price in the US is $35 a bottle. |

TASTING NOTE: Petite Syrah (aka sirah) has long been grown in California but just as often is used in blends as it is solo. It is known for having impressive, colour, weight and firmness, if less fruit impact. This is a classic and classy example. Again, not highly aromatic but solid with black plum, herbs, spice, minerality and great tension. The feel reminded me of wines from Spain's Priorat region. Very well made, with excellent length but it needs time. Score: 91 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, April 4, 2012) |
