The Vintages Catalogue says it is the 2015, but the 2012 was shipped to the stores and it was the 2012 that was presented in the preview tastings. Here is my previous note for this 5th REPEAT: Extremely deep intense purple colour. Intense, very slightly earthy, plum-cherry-apple nose with lots of cedary notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, spicy, ripe slightly baked plum-cherry flavours with a lingering, cedary, fairly high acid, licorice-sandalwood-tinged finish. Best with steak. Has 13.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar with no screwcap closure. TONY ASPLER / 88.5-points / BUY - Cedary, plum and currant nose with spicy oak notes; medium-bodied, dry, savoury black currant and plum flavours with lively acidity and ripe tannins. |

TASTING NOTE: This is always a standout wine, from one of Ontario's best-known producers. The 2015 is rich, ripe and approachable, with a great depth of blueberry, plum, cassis and spice with a tantalizing touch of mocha. It has good weight and presence and excellent length, with noticeable but not dominating tannin. This will age very nicely, and you can comfortably put it aside for another 5-8 years. But it will be a great option this evening paired with a meaty lasagna or beef brisket. (Vintages panel, Aug. 2017) |
