Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
STRATUS |
Extremely deep intense purple colour. Fairly attractive, complex, intense, quite cedary, slightly baked, ripe plum-cherry nose with some sandalwood-tinged, mineral notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, well structured, slightly spicy, ripe plum-red cherry-cassis flavours with a spicy, lingering, high acid, faintly earthy, high acid, slightly mocha-tinged finish. This blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc 11% Petit Verdot and 2% Malbec has 13.8% alcohol and 6 g/L residual sugar. The 2013 (***) with 91-points was released on November 25, 2017 at $48.20. TONY ASPLER / 91-points / TRY - Dense purple in colour; spicy, plum bouquet with a light floral note; full-bodied, dry, well-structured with flavours of red plum, cherry and dark chocolate. More elegant that previous vintages - more in the Bordeaux style. |

Stratus has 10 red wine grapes in their vineyard: Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Gamay, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Syrah, Tannat and Tempranillo. Winemaker J-L Groux, the blending maestro, and his team build this flagship red based on the qualities of the vintage. Based on the rave reviews the single-varietal 2015 Cabernet Franc is getting (two 90-point reviews from winealign.com, for instance), expect great things from this wine. |
