VISION SERIES CHARDONNAY 2016 BC VQA Okanagan Valley |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
SPERLING |
Bright very pale straw colour. Fairly intense, somewhat spicy, ripe lemon-melon apple nose with some gentle toasty notes. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, harmonious, intense, fairly spicy, ripe lemon meringue flavours with a lingering, fairly high acid, gently toasty finish. Ready-to-drink. Has 13% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar with lot number 2105B2L20161011 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Does it really make sense for the Vintages Catalogue quote a high score review from a previous vintage? Should they suggest that “you can expect the 2016 to reflect similar quality and traits.” This suggestion should be made by the author not by the LCBO. |

This comes from the Okanagan outpost of one of the leading lights of Canadian winemaking: the one-and-only Ann Sperling (director of winemaking and viticulture at Southbrook in Ontario). Beppi Crosariol (The Globe and Mail, July 10, 2017) awarded the 2015 version of this wine a rating of 91 points, calling it \"... medium-bodied, tight and tense with acidity, just enough to accentuate the apple-, pear- and peach-like fruit ...\" and a \"... Genuinely cool chardonnay.\" You can expect the 2016 to reflect similar quality and traits. |
