ESTATE PINOT NOIR 2016 VQA Short Hills Bench, Niagara Escarpment |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
HENRY OF PELHAM |
Faintly ambering medium-deep brick red colour. Maturing, slightly spicy, ripe plum puree nose with some faintly earthy, cedary notes. Dry, medium bodied, ripe, plum-crancherry flavours with a lingering, gently cedary finish. Quite ready-to-drink. Unfortunately, the first bottle sampled was badly corked. Has 13.5% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar. Much better than the 2015 (**) released on May 26, 2018 at $24.95. |

TASTING NOTE: Sourced from among HoP's oldest and lowest-yielding vines, this is a silky, vibrant Pinot. Fresh and lifted with crushed berry, raspberry, strawberry and earth tones. A beautifully textured wine that will deliver great versatility at the table, it has the structure and depth for duck or salmon and would be superb with an autumn beef stew.
