CLOSSON CHASE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR 2016 VQA Prince Edward County |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CLOSSON CHASE |
Medium purple red colour. Very spicy, ripe plum-cherry nose with some complex beetroot-sandalwood notes. Dry, medium to medium-light bodied, nice mouthfeel, bright, ripe plum-crancherry flavours with a lingering, very gently cedary, fairly high acid finish. Quite ready-to-drink. Has 12.3% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Tasted twice. Unfortunately, a second bottle had some acetic notes. Not up to the recommended 2014 (***) with 90-points that was released on April 15, 2017 at $29.95. |

Small but mighty, Prince Edward County is a gem of a region, made all the more impressive and special by the range, quality and refinement of the wines crafted by so many excellent wineries. Closson Chase, which is one of the region's pioneering premium producers, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018. Pinot specialist Keith Tyers has been the winemaker since 2015, and his terroir-focused approach seeks to make the connection between the soil and the glass obvious to all who enjoy his wines. Look for an elegant, perfumed wine with energetic cherry, red fruit, spice and earth. Enjoy with grilled pork or salmon. |
