LAKEVIEW CELLARS |
Bright medium straw colour. Spicy, baked apple-lemon nose with some nutty notes. Off dry, medium-light bodied, very spicy, slightly peppery, baked lemon-apple flavours with a lingering, faintly bitter, nutty finish. Tasted twice. Has 12% alcohol and 14 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. A pass for me! |

TASTING NOTE: The Kerner grape is grown throughout Germany and is very rare here in Ontario. Created in 1929 when August Herold crossed the red grape Trollinger with Riesling, it's an early-ripening grape, often among the first whites to be harvested. This wine is bright and vibrant with fine apple, peach, spice, plenty of Kerner's characteristic tropical fruit and an emerging Riesling-like mineral oil note. This straddles dry and off-dry and will be a nice option for spicy grilled-shrimp-and-pineapple kebabs. (Vintages panel, March 2018) |
