\"Wildass, with its donkey logo and Wild West typeface, is the casual brand made at Stratus, a high-end winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Stratus winemaker J-L Groux, a native of France's Loire Valley, is a master blender who's crafting mould-breaking cuvées\" (Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail, Jan. 9, 2013). Wildass Red combines a whack of different grapes each vintage - the 2014 blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Viognier - but it's consistently fruit-forward, bright and savoury with easygoing tannins. Pair with burritos or free-range beef burgers. |
