TAVEL 2017 AC Tavel |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
CHÂTEAU D'AQUÉRIA |
Bright very light reddish colour. Fairly intense, slightly spicy, candied apple-plum nose with some mineral notes. Dry, medium-light bodied, quite well structured, tangy, spicy, dusty cooked apple-plum flavours with a crisp finish. This blend of 45% Grenache Noir with 20% Clairette, 15% Cinsault, 8% Mourvèdre, 6% Syrah, 4% Bourboulenc and 2% Picpoul has 14% alcohol and 4 g/L residual sugar. There are 21 Vintages releases of this Tavel in my database which covers the past 18 years. Unfortunately, this 2017 is a big disappointment. Intense, would like to taste it again. The recommended 2016 (**+) was released on May 13, 2017 at $21.95. |

The 2017 vintage blends 45% Grenache Noir with 20% Clairette, 15% Cinsault, 8% Mourvèdre, 6% Syrah, 4% Bourboulenc and 2% Picpoul and shows juicy red apple, cherry, strawberry and watermelon with some herbal and spice shading, notable heft and plenty of tangy acidity. Chill and pour with barbecued salmon and sautéed Swiss chard. (Vintages panel, May 2018) |
