VIEILLES VIGNES CHARDONNAY 2014 AP Côtes du Jura |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
MARCEL CABELIER |
Forward bright light yellow colour. Spicy, honeyed, cedary, forward, seemingly somewhat oxidized, baked lemon-melon meringue nose. Dry, medium to medium-full bodied, quite well structured, spicy, somewhat nutty, intense, baked lemon-apple flavours with a lingering, very cedary, grippy, extremely high acid finish. Very distinctive - a kind of love it or hate it style, which you may want to try at the price. Has 12.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L80326R01 on the capsule. The 2013 (*+/**) was released on July 8, 2017 at $19.95. |

Chardonnay is the most widely planted white grape in Jura and has been grown in the region since the 10th century - though it has, in this time, been known by other names: Melon d'Arbois, Moular and Gamay Blanc. Jura was once known for its red wines, but now white wines hold precedence. This is from vines that are over 25 years of age. Expect it to deliver the touch of oxidized apple notes associated with this style. Also look for lemon and oak spice atop a vibrant, fresh acidic spine. Ideal for escargot or white fish.
