CHARDONNAY 2016 BC VQA Okanagan Valley |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
BLUE MOUNTAIN |
Very bright medium straw colour. Intense, complex, gently spicy, ripe melon-pear fruit on the nose with some toasty cedar notes. Dry, harmonious, slightly spicy, very bright, ripe lemon-pear-lime meringue flavours with a lingering, crisp, gently toasty, mineral-tinged, lifted, harmonious finish. For this vintage, 30% was fermented and aged in stainless steel (down from 50% for the 2014) The balance was ages in French oak - some new to 3-year-old. This lovely Chardonnay has 13% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar. It sells for an incredibly modest $21 at the winery. Still a steal at the LCBO price - so don’t miss it! |

TASTING NOTE: This such a lovely, bright, fresh yet substantial chardonnay - such a great northern feel with energy and intrigue. From 27 year old vines, it is showing impressive depth and complexity for the money. Oak is nicely woven here, 70% aged in old, almost neutral French barrels. Expect generous, complex aromas of yellow pear, cream, lemon blossom, grapefruit, toast, sage and stone. It is mid-weight, fairly taut, lemony and firm, with sage and lemon on the finish. The length is excellent to outstanding. Score - 92 (David Lawrason, winealign.com, Feb. 15, 2018) |
