GAMAY 2016 VQA Niagara Peninsula |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
MALIVOIRE |
Very faintly ambering medium red colour. Slightly spicy, ripe plum-cherry-apple nose with some mineral-tinged notes. Dry, medium-light bodied, spicy, ripe plum-cherry-apple puree flavours with a crisp, unoaked finish. Ready-to-drink. This REPEAT has only 12.0% alcohol and 8 g/L residual sugar with a screwcap closure. Not quite up to the slightly fresher recommended 2016 (**/**+) that was last released on February 17, 2018 at $17.95. TONY ASPLER / 88-points / BUY - Bright cherry bouquet; medium-bodied, dry, fruity cherry flavour; easy drinking. Not exactly “fullish” or “succulent” but quite tasty! |

Gold Medal winner at the 2017 National Wine Awards of Canada. TASTING NOTE: Here's a juicy, fullish, succulent gamay with a fine measure of typical red berry fruit, if riper than the mean for Ontario. Indeed alcohol is a touch warming, but this remains balanced and fresh. An excellent example. Score - 90 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com, July 17, 2017) |
