GLENMORANGIE |
Bright light golden yellow amber colour. Intense, peppery, very slightly spicy, plummy, caramel-apple-tinged nose. Very dry, medium-full bodied, harmonious, well structured, intense, mouthfilling, slightly spicy, somewhat dusty caramel-plum-apple flavours with a lingering, very bright, somewhat aggressive, peppery finish. This REPEAT is not at all up to when it last appeared in Vintages (***/***+) with 96-points on May 14, 2016 at $339.95 and was Recommended. Why? It could be that this is a new batch with a new lot number L17.073 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Or perhaps the sample bottle in the lab had been open for quite some time (something that can undermine the tapestry of flavours). One thing is for sure, both Beppi and I (who really liked it last time) agreed that it was not up to its last appearance. |

TASTING NOTE: This is a showstopper, a big and bold departure for a single-malt brand otherwise known for delicacy. As rich as its dark-amber hue would suggest, it puts an extra \"o\" in \"smooth.\" Syrupy-dense, the Glenmorangie Signet, bottled at 46-per-cent alcohol, gracefully weaves together a rich tapestry of fine Scotch nuances: dried fruit, toasted nuts, dried cereal, cocoa, vanilla, coffee and toasty oak. Don't dream of mixing this voluptuous after-dinner glory with anything but good friends or family. Score - 97 (Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail, Oct. 22, 2014) |
