THE BALVENIE |
Medium golden amber colour. Attractive, fairly intense, caramel tinged, gently smoky, plummy, orange citrus nose with some floral notes. Smooth, dry, medium to medium-full bodied, well structured, harmonious, slightly spicy, somewhat honeyed, plummy, vanilla-caramel tinged flavours with a lingering, dryish, buttered toast finish. Last appeared in Vintages (***/***+) on December 6, 2014 at $347.95. Balvenie lies in the Convals in Dufftown and is one of the few Scotch distilleries to boast in-house floor maltings, utilizing locally hand-cut peat. |

TASTING NOTE: Rich and succulent, this super-luxe old Speyside spirit starts out friendly, with burnt honey, dried fruit and cashew flavours, before delivering a backslap of spice and seductive nuance of damp earth. Score - 93 (Beppi Crosariol, The Globe and Mail, Nov. 25, 2011) |
