PORTWOOD 21-YEAR-OLD SINGLE MALT Scotland |
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
THE BALVENIE |
Not presented at the press or consultants preview in the LCBO lab. Last appeared in Vintages (***/***+) on December 8, 2012 at only $244.95 and was an Explorer Selection. Here is my note: Medium golden amber colour. Fairly intense, caramel tinged, very faintly smoky, orange citrus nose with some floral notes. Quite smooth, dry, harmonious, medium to medium-full bodied, slightly spicy, somewhat honeyed, plummy, caramel tinged flavours with a lingering, dryish finish. It was repeated in Vintages (not presented) on December 7, 2013 at $274.95. |

TASTING NOTE: This 21-year-old expression of Balvenie from the sister distillery to Glenfiddich has been finished for a period in 30-year-old port pipes. The nose is soft, warming and creamy, with ripe fruits, vanilla and a smoky, musky red wine note. Full-bodied and rich on the silky palate; subtly spiced, drying steadily to nutty oak, with fruity wine notes to the last. Score - 3 1/2 Stars (out of 5) (Tom Cannavan & Gavin D. Smith, whisky-pages.com, undated) |
