Pronounced ‘boon-a-ha-ven’, ‘Bunnahabhain’ means ‘mouth of the river’. Intriguingly different, it is one of the lighter Islay malts. ‘Bunnahabhain’ is also one of the main ingredients in the ‘Famous Grouse’ blended whisky. Tasting note: House style: fresh, sweetish, nutty, herbal, salty. Aperitif. Colour: Gold. Nose: remarkably fresh, sweet, sea-air aroma. Body: light to medium, firm. Palate: gentle, clean, nutty-malty sweetness. Finish: very full flavour development. A refreshing quality. (Michael Jackson, Malt Whisky Companion, 4th Edition, 1999) |
