Closed in 1993, Rosebank is still cherished for its Lowland tradition of triple distillation. Signatory, the independent bottler, is one of the few places that still has casks of this ‘whisky-maker’s whisky’. I know one blender who, against his better judgement, had agreed to take part in a blind whisky tasting on the radio. When he heard that Rosebank had been chosen as the Lowlander, he all but pleaded not to go on air as he knew he would never spot it among the top Highlanders on show. At its best, Rosebank must be ranked in the top five of all Scotland’s malts for its sheer charm. (Jim Murray, Complete Book of Whisky, 1997) |
