GRAN RESERVA 2018 DOCa Rioja, Spain
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BERONIA
Extremely deep intense purple red colour. Intense, very cedary, youthful, slightly peppery, ripe plum nose with some sandalwood notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, mouthfilling, dense, somewhat peppery, plum flavours with a lingering, cedary-sandalwood finish. This blend of 90% Tempranillo, 8% Mazuelo and 2% Graciano has 14% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar. Needs time. Unfortunately, not up to the recommended 2015 (93-points) that was released on November 18, 2023 at $37.95. CSPC 940965

TASTING NOTE: The 2018 Gran Reserva Beronia was aged for 28 months in barrels. Oak-driven aromatics - cedar, vanilla, black fruit - drive the nose, with soft camphor and blackberry in the background. Dry, with fine tannins and juicy flow, the palate is smooth and well balanced. The 2018 is a polished crowd-pleaser. Drinking window: 2025-2040.
