BLANC DE BLANCS CSV NATURAL BRUT SPARKLING 2017 VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment, traditional method
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CAVE SPRING
Bright medium yellow colour with streams of tiny bubbles. Classy, intense, fairly toasty, very slightly spicy, lifted, maturing, ripe, lemon-apple-melon brioche nose with some minerally, sea salt notes. Dry, medium bodied, nicely textured, bright, expansive, lemon-apple flavours with an effervescent, fairly crisp, gently complex, toasty, harmonious, lingering finish. Showing very well at the moment, it outperformed several Champagnes recently tasted. The whole cluster fruit was fermented 85% in stainless steel and 15% neutral oak followed by 11 months of sur lie aging and then spent 65 months on the lees. It has 12% alcohol with about 1.5 g/L residual sugar and 8.1 g/L total acidity with lot number L032024 on the lower part of the glass bottle. CSPC 237198

A Best Buy
TASTING NOTE: Maturing but still very lively and impeccably balanced, the CSV 2017 Blanc de Blancs was aged for 5+ years sur lie, made from a selection of the premium parcels of mature vines on the Cave Spring property. It pours a pale gold colour, and shows a mix of youth and evolution, fresh lemon and wildflower honey, meadow flowers and fresh wheat, well within the classic spectrum. The palate is notably dry and crisp with minimal dosage apparent (presumably brut nature, though labeled as \"Natural Brut\"), with ripe acids framing the broad palate without austerity or excess. Length and depth are excellent. Top notch, ready to enjoy, and a sharp value at $50 especially relative the even basic entry level champagne at higher cost. Tasted November 2024. Score - 94 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com) Price $ 49.95
