LUCE 2022 IGT Toscana, Tuscany, Italy
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer
This 2022 has an extremely deep intense purple colour and powerful nose focused on intense, very ripe, gently complex, plum-crancherry-raspberry fruit with lots of gently cedary, minerally, lifted floral notes. Dry, full bodied, dense, youthful, ripe, bright, Damson plum, cranberry, cassis and black cherry flavours with a lingering, minerally, elegantly cedary, well textured finish. Drinkable now, but still very youthful - could use another decade in a cool cellar to flesh out and develop all the complex secondary flavours. This Merlot-Sangiovese blend was aged in 80%new oak or 24 months and has 14% alcohol, 2 rg/L residual sugar and 6.3 g/L total acidity. CSPC 685263

TASTING NOTE: There are Super Tuscans - and then there are true Super Tuscans. Luce, an impeccable blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, falls squarely into the latter category. It delivers refined power, with the firmness and structure of Sangiovese balancing the more boisterous and juicier Merlot component. The result is an impression of dark fruit and minerals atop a silky structure. The wine's overall impression is assertive without being flamboyant. Tuscan acidity amplifies its appeal while keeping it fresh and lively. A captivating hint of bitterness in the finish reminds us that it is serious wine. Amazingly seductive now, I'm sure it will evolve beautifully over the coming years. Score - 96 (Michael Apstein, winereviewonline.com, May 21, 2025) Price $ 129.95
