ISOLE E OLENA |
| Fairly deep red in colour, the very gently complex, slightly minerally, rose-violet floral nose has fresh ripe Damson plum fruit with some faint cassis-tinged, caramel-brioche notes. Dry, medium-plus bodied, still youthful, harmonious, bright, elegant Damson plum flavours with some cassis-raspberry notes on the lingering, harmonious, gently cedary finish. This still somewhat restrained 100% Sangiovese icon has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L.17.23 on the back label. It really needs another 5-10 years to develop. I have now reviewed 10 of the 14 Vintages releases of Cepparello over the past 18 years and in general they are very youthful when released and need time to develop and become significantly tastier. |

| TASTING NOTE: In this vintage Cepparello shows very restrained notes of red cherries, dried violets and a lot of stony minerality. There is a meaty and savory character in depth. Overall very precise and integrated. Velvety tannins dominate the palate, showing a chalky texture, even dusty, with a full body, amazing concentration and very refreshing acidity. The finish is brightly focused on cherry pits. A good wine for the long haul. Possibly one of the best Cepparello ever. Best after 2031. Score - 99 (jamessuckling.com, July 2, 2024) |
