GAMAY 2023 VQA Lincoln Lakeshore, Niagara Peninsula, sustainable, unfiltered
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note

HIDDEN BENCH |
Bright deep violet-red colour. Complex and initially very earthy with some sour-savoury notes followed up by intense, ripe, plum-raspberry-crancherry fruit aromatics and lots of minerally gently cedary notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, quite dense, rich and mouthfilling with vibrant, ripe, plum-crancherry-raspberry flavours and a lingering, very bright, gently spicy, minerally, earthy finish. Unfined and unfiltered, it has 13.2% alcohol and under 1 g/L residual sugar. Recently bottled April 10, 2025 (L2024-04-10 on the lower part of the glass bottle). I discovered that this wine tasted far superior after being decanted (and/or shaken) permitting it to breath and shed these recent bottling notes. It jumped from an initial 89 to 91+ points with the juicy, ripe, intense, black raspberry fruit coming into the foreground. I suggest extreme aeration if drinking today and/or laying it away for another year or so.

TASTING NOTE: A serious Gamay that sets itself clearly in the \"cru-style\" category. Unapologetically perfect for your main course at Thanksgiving or any holiday meal, it's youthful, complex and juicy, with excellent depth and generous dark cherry, black raspberry, violets, forest berry, and integrated spice.
