STEEL POST VINEYARD SMALL LOT RIESLING 2021 VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note

THIRTY BENCH |
Great Rieslings can be quite challenging when they are young and especially if recently bottled. While this one will benefit from additional aging, although it is shows great class and complexity now. Bright medium straw in colour, it has intense, bright, ripe, lemony, ripe apple, yellow grapefruit aromas with lots of mineral, gently petrol-driven notes. Fairly dry, medium bodied, nicely structured, gently spicy, very bright, lemony, apple puree and key lime flavours with a lingering, tangy, mineral-driven, slightly petrol-tinged finish. It has 10.1% alcohol and 10.3 g/l residual sugar which seems invisible due to a hefty 9.8 g/l total acidity. Only 438 cases made, it has a screwcap closure and can last for another decade.

TASTING NOTE: Starting to show Riesling complexity here for sure along with lots of tight crunchy orchard fruit, lime zest and a nice herbiness. Filled with tension, zest and gusto on the palate. Green mango, green apple and candied grapefruit zest are laser pure and full of life. It's just so assertively delicious and won't be denied. Score - 92 (Brent Muller, winealign.com)
