OLD VINES SAVAGNIN 2023 VQA St. David's Bench, Niagara-on-the-Lake, sustainable, vegan
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer CHÂTEAU DES CHARMES
NEW in Vintages. Medium light straw colour. Bright, ripe melon-apple-peach nose with some minerally notes along with a gentle impression of toastiness. Dry, medium bodied, somewhat chalky, still youthful, nicely textured, melon-lemon-peach flavours with a lingering, minerally finish. Great with seafood and poultry, this 100% Savagnin is from the Jura region of France and was planted at the winery in 1993. Aged for 9 months in neutral oak, it has 13% alcohol, 5 g/L residual sugar and 6.2 g/L total acidity with only 261 cases being produced. Quite rare in Canada and worthy of a detour. Screwcap closure. TASTING NOTE: Such an interesting and complex nose of white peach, quince, melon, green apple, saline/stony minerality, pineapple, orange blossoms and subtle toasty spice notes. It has lovely texture and a dry, succulent entry on the palate with peachy/pear fruits, some herbaceous notes, tangy citrus, a touch of flint, and a bright, lifted finish. Highly unique and delicious! Score - 92 (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, Aug. 21, 2024) Price $ 24.95
