VIÑAS VIEJAS 2020 DOCa Rioja
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer BERONIA
This is only the second vintage of Vinas Viejas (old vines) that has appeared in Vintages. Bright deep purple-ruby in colour, the nose shows good complexity and fruit concentration (plums, blackberries and cherries) along with some cedary notes. Dry, medium-full bodied and quite well structured with lots of cedary, intense, very bright, ripe albeit youthful, cassis-plum-cherry flavours along with a high acid, lingering, still slightly grippy finish. This nicely-textured new French oak-fermented 100% Tempranillo has 14% alcohol and 2.2 g/L residual sugar (only 5.4 g/L total acidity) with lot number L1-09025AA on the lower part of the glass bottle. It can aged and evolve nicely over the next 5 years and calls for a large glass to pull out all the flavours. of 14,400 bottles produced, 8,640 went to the LCBO. CSPC 16587
