| I tasted this remarkable albeit rather unique 2020 Sauvignon Blanc at the tasting bar at Store 149 where it is currently being poured daily. It seems to be a love-it or hate-it style that improves immensely as it opens up with extended breathing. Light straw colour, the initial nose is very pungent with intense, extremely minerally, somewhat herbal, pithy, yellow grapefruit aromatics accompanied by some dusty-iron notes. Dry, medium-full bodied, extracty, intense, very bright, somewhat herbal, yellow grapefruit flavours with a lingering, somewhat cedary, complex, high acid finish. It has 13% alcohol and 1.5 g/L residual sugar. The screwcap closure accounts for its youthfulness and it really much more accessable after breathing. It is made from grapes exclusively sourced at the MacDonald Family Home Vineyard, Lower Wairau Valley in Marlborough. PS - you may want to age it for another 5 years at low temperature. |

| TASTING NOTE: Immensely complex and engaging, the bouquet shows grapefruit, ripe stone fruit, gun smoke, lemon peel and oatmeal characters, leading to an impressively concentrated palate offering terrific fruit power combined with savoury nuances. It's brilliantly framed by juicy acidity, finishing superbly long and satisfying. At its best: now to 2030. Score - 95 (Sam Kim, wineorbit.co.nz, Sept. 2023) |
