| VIÑA BOSCONIA RESERVA 2015 DOCa Rioja |
| Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
R. LÓPEZ DE HEREDIA |
| I have tasted all 14 Vintages releases since May 5, 2001 and this 2015 is the best to date! 20 It has a fairly deep intense purple red colour. The nose is intense and quite complex with mineral-driven, ripe, Damson-plum-cassis-black-cherry fruit along with refined cedar notes. Dry, medium-full bodied and nicely structured, the ripe, plum-red-cherry-cassis fruit flavours are followed up by a lingering, gently cedary, harmonious finish. Aged 5 years in American oak (225 L), it has a hefty 6.5 g/L total acidity and is unfiltered. This blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacha and 5% Graciano and Mazuelo has 13.5% alcohol and under 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L-1414 on the back label. It will keep but happens to be drinking perfectly now. |

| TASTING NOTE: The 2015 Viña Bosconia Reserva shows a darker color and a riper profile. It was a warm year, and the grapes were picked quite ripe. They struggled a little with the fermentations, and they had different lots and had to play with the blending and the percentages of other vintages that were allowed to be blended in the wine so it would be a more balanced wine with 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.3 and 6.7 grams of acidity. It was produced with a blend of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Garnacho and the remaining 5% Graciano and Mazuelo, fermented in old oak vats with their yeasts and matured in those vats and in neutral American oak barrels over seven years. It also has some more rustic tannins, without the silky texture of some of its siblings. It was bottled in March 2023. Drink date: 2026-2042. Score - 94 (Luis Gutiérrez, robertparker.com, March 12, 2026) |
