SMALL LOT WOOD POST VINEYARD RIESLING 2021 VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer THIRTY BENCH
Great Rieslings can be challenging when they are young and especially when recently bottled. Thankfully this outstanding 2021 has had a chance to age and develop since bottled several years ago. It shows great class and complexity now. Medium-plus straw colour, it has intense, bright, ripe apple, lemon meringue and yellow grapefruit on the nose with lots of minerally elegant petrol-tinged notes. Just off-dry, medium bodied and very nicely textured with gently spicy, very bright, lemony, warm ripe apple pie inspired flavours with a lingering, tangy, mineral-driven, faintly petrol-tinged finish. Wonderful with seafood, poultry and white meats, it has 10.7% alcohol and 16.2 g/L residual sugar which seems lower due to the hefty 9.6 g/L total acidity. Only 194 cases produced - screwcap closure. You will have to rush to get this bargain as only 25 cases are in Flagship stores. CSPC 359760

TASTING NOTE: Wood Post Vineyard is part of the Thirty Bench 'Small Lot' Riesling portfolio, and this 2021 edition is another top expression of Riesling from this property in Beamsville Bench. Gentle aromas of apple blossoms and lemons. Flavours of white peaches with lively acidity balance the off-dry style. The pleasing stoney character creates complex mineral notes with a long, lingering finish. Elegant and structured with discreet power. Drinking window: 2024- 2032.
