OLD VINES SINGLE VINEYARD AGIORGITIKO 2015 PDO Nemea
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer KTIMA PAPAIOANNOU
This very limited edition of only 1,174 cases (with multiple different date bottlings) is made from 40-year-old Agiorgitiko vines and was aged for 18 months in new 300 L French oak. It has a deep purple-ruby-red colour and an intense, distinguished, complex, expansive, Damson plum nose with some gentle cedary notes. Dry, full bodied, intense, dense, well-integrated, plum-cassis-dark-cherry flavours that are mouthfilling and well structured accompanied by a lingering, rather cedary (somewhat Rioja-inspired) finish. A remarkable Greek red with a hefty 15% alcohol which is unfiltered explaining the great texture. You can safely ignore the old Suckling tasting note (dated Aug. 28, 2022) quoted in the Vintages Catalogue. This batch shipped to the LCBO was bottled much later on April 24, 2023 (the capsule tag provides the labeling date NM/24).
