MARSANNE/VIOGNIER 2023 VQA Beamsville Bench, Niagara Escarpment

This classy Rhone-inspired NEW blend of only 52% Marsanne (down from 95% from the previous 2020) and 48% Viognier (up from 3%) and no Pinot Gris (it was 2%) has a medium straw colour. The attractive, slightly spicy nose is faintly toasty and quite complex with ripe, citrus-tinged, lemon-apple fruit. Dry, medium bodied, harmonious and nicely textured with ripe, lemon-melon-apple-citrus flavours followed up by a lingering, gently minerally finish. Versatile and ready-to-drink - great with seafood and poultry. It has a hefty 14% alcohol and only 1.7 g/L residual sugar with lot number 251124 on the lower part of the glass bottle. Extended lees aging in previously-used French 500 litre oak explains the excellent silky mouthfeel. Screwcap closure.

TASTING NOTE: Marsanne and Viognier are staple varieties of the Rhône Valley in France, but they're quite rare in Ontario vineyards. This exceptional blend of the two is smooth and textured with layers of perfumed florals, ripe and zesty tropical fruit and rich, toasty honeyed tones. Sip with pork belly or pan-fried mackerel.
