| Vintage Assessments Tasting Note |
Producer |
GONZĂLEZ BYASS |
| Medium amber yellow-tinged colour. Attractive, very sweet, honeyed, Seville orange marmalade nose with some nutty, faintly bitter herbal notes. Seductive, sweet, medium-full bodied, well balanced, very spicy, honeyed, brown sugar and creme brulee flavours with a lingering, spicy, honeyed, bitter-sweet, faintly herbal finish. Keep chilled once opened. Infused with wormwood, cinnamon, cinchona bark and orange, it has 15.5% alcohol and 141 g/L residual sugar with lot number L252901 on the back label. Beware of the 9-year-old 95-point tasting note point used by the LCBO to promote this wine. Each batch can differ and the other scores were between 89 and 93 points. |

| TASTING NOTE: Jesus y Maria - what an explosive nose! This exceptional Spanish vermouth from Gonzalez-Byass is superbly complex, redolent of both fresh and dried orange peel, cinnamon and clove and all manner of North African and exotic eastern spices, and, and... There's too much going on here to fully describe. This is surely one of the most intense aromatic experiences I can remember (and pleasant). The palate is sweet but not heavy, just dripping with flavour, nutmeg, loads of clove, medicinal in the right way. I'd sip it on the rocks, but if using in a cocktail be aware that a little will go a very long way. outstanding stuff. Tasted June 2017. Score - 95 (John Szabo, MS, winealign.com) |
