CEPPARELLO 2022 IGT Toscana-Cassis
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer ISOLE E OLENA
This just-released 2022 has a fairly deep purple-red colour. The nose is fairly intense, complex, slightly minerally with floral rose-violet notes and ripe Damson plum, raspberry, cassis and black cherry fruit along with some faint caramel-brioche notes. Dry, medium-plus bodied, well textured, harmonious, bright, elegant, Damson plum flavours with ripe, cassis-raspberry notes on the lingering, harmonious, gently cedary finish. This 100% Sangiovese icon has 15% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with lot number L.11.24 on the back label and is aged for 18 months in a combination of French and American oak. Surprisingly accessible at the moment, it usually benefits from 3 to 10 years of aging. I have reviewed 11 of the past 15 Vintages releases over the past 18 years and this 2022 strikes me as the most ready-to-drink to date. CSPC 28768

TASTING NOTE: Restrained at the first sniff, this vintage shines with smoky and straw aromas, together with intense violets, bright red cherries and cherry stones. Cedar wood in depth. Full-bodied and extracted, yet full of fruit sweetness, displaying velvety tannins and crisp integrated acidity which enhances and lengthens the cherry flavor. Super polished finish which is not always the case in this vintage. Drinkable now, but best from 2026. Score - 97 (jamessuckling.com, March 24, 2025) Price $ 199.95
