| This unique partial-appassimento is an ever-changing blend that this time has a fairly deep purple-red colour. The nose shows good complexity with some slightly earthy, ripe, plum-crancherry fruit along with cedar-sandalwood notes. It’s dry, medium bodied and quite well structured with intense, bright, ripe, plum-crancherry flavours followed up by a lingering, crisp, fairly cedary, harmonious finish. It has 13.7% alcohol and 1.3 g/L residual sugar. Quite approachable now, it is a brand new blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon (was 88%), 33% Cabernet Franc (was 12%) and now 27% appassimento kiln-dried Merlot. Aged for 18 months (was 16 months) in French and American oak. The lot number 250722 appears on the lower part of the glass meaning that it was bottled last July 22nd. Only 1200 cases were produced. |

| Soldier's Grant is a blend of 38% Cabernet Franc, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 27% Merlot, made partially in the appassimento process and matured in French oak for eighteen months. The oak does present an obvious, resinous/varnished note on the nose here atop the ripe currant/raspberry fruit. Also considerable herbality. It is medium-full bodied, warm, shrubby and earthy on the palate. And quite tannic now. Excellent length! I would cellar this about three years - it could go ten, and the oak will subside. Tasted Nov. 2025. Score - 90. (David Lawrason, winealign.com) |
