SPY VALLEY |
| Odd to see a half bottle of 2020 NZ pinot on shelf in Canada here in 2026, but it is maintaining surprising youth and freshness. From two vineyards in the more inland Southern Valleys region of Marlborough it shows gentle, pretty and quite sophisticated aromas of cherry, red rose, fine spice and dried pine needle. It is light to mid-weight, quite elegant and refined with firm acidity and tannin. But nothing too pushy here either, which I like. It trails minerality and shows excellent focus and length. Just reviewed by fellow wine writer David Lawrason. It has 14.5% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar with some screwcap closure. |

| TASTING NOTE: Plenty of ripe strawberry with orange peel and hints of dark chocolate. It's full and flavorful with firm, velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Sustainable. Drink or hold [through 2025+]. Score - 92 (jamessuckling.com, March 6, 2023) |
