RIESLING ICEWINE 2023 VQA Creek Shores, Niagara Peninsula, Ontario
Vintage Assessments Tasting Note Producer TAWSE
This youthful 2023 icewine has a bright light straw colour with an intense, sweet, citrusy, faintly tropical, papaya-tinged nose. On the palate it has intense, sweet but balanced, medium bodied, rich, ripe, citrusy, honeyed-apricot flavours with a lingering, lifted finish accompanied by a touch of caramel and baked apple. Harvested on February 5, 2024, it has 10% alcohol, 225 g/L residual sugar and a hefty 10.6 g/L total acidity with lot lumber 22/05/24 on the lower part of the 200 ml glass bottle. CSPC 44186

TASTING NOTE: Clean and fresh on the nose, this is precisely rendered, sound and chiselled icewine, comfortable and stress free. Flavours resemble apricot and quince jam, with wonderfully sapid and saliva-inducing, almost saline character, saltwater toffee and crème brulée. It's very sweet to be sure, but not heavy thanks to vibrant acids. Length is excellent. Drink or hold into the early '30s, or beyond - the landing strip will be long. Tasted March 2025. Score - 94.
