LES HAUTS DE BARVILLE CHÂTEAUNEUF-DU-PAPE 2022 AOC

This is a very typical, quite complex, classic, Grenache-based Chateauneuf with its complex, heady aromas of strawberry-rhubarb pie, dried herbs, peppery spices and spearmint. Love the nose. It is medium-full bodied, broad and loosely built, with 14.5% abv not throwing too much heat. Tannins are drying and crusty. The length is excellent. Drink by 2030. Just reviewed by fellow wine writer David Lawrason. This tasty blend of 60% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah and 5% Cinsault has 15% alcohol and 3 g/L residual sugar.

TASTING NOTE: Crafted from vines planted in the Pignan, Saint Vierge, Bédine, Beaurenard, Pradel and Palestor plots, the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Hauts de Barville evokes aromas of cherries, garrigue, spices, violets and dark wild berries. Medium to full-bodied, tense and fresh, it's round and fleshy with a delicate core of fruit and a long, ethereal finish. Built around a classic core of fruit, this is a harmonious red wine composed of 60% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 20% Syrah and 5% Cinsault. Drink date: 2024-2030. Score - 92 (Yohan Castaing, robertparker.com, Sept. 26, 2024)
