RISERVA DI FAMIGLIA CHIANTI CLASSICO 2020 DOCG, Tuscany, Italy

This lovely riserva has moved nicely into prime time. The nose is not high drama but it is very complex and pleasing with dried currant fruit, cedar shaving, dried herbs/tobacco, leather and wood grain. It is medium weight, even and smooth with some warmth. Tannins are very fine. The length is excellent. Drink now. Just reviewed by fellow wine writer David Lawrason. This 2021 blend of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon undergoes a 15-day fermentation in stainless steel tanks followed by 12 months of aging in oak casks. It has 14% alcohol and 2 g/L residual sugar.

TASTING NOTE: Straightforward, showing bright violets and fresh roses soaked in red cherries with camphor and a whiff of balsamic. Light- to medium-bodied, it reveals a juicy style with precise chalky tannins, chewy acidity and a bony yet polished finish. Drink or hold. Score - 92 (jamessuckling.com, March 13, 2025)
